Airline cabin crew also known as flight attendants are responsible for ensuring passenger safety during a flight; and ensuring the comfort of passengers. They need to be tactful and gentle with fearful passengers and be firm with disobedient passengers. Before departure of any flight the cabin crew is briefed regarding all its conditions. They ensure that the plane has been properly cleaned and that all the stocks they require are on board including cabin equipment and medical stores.
They also liaise, to check passenger seat numbers they are belted in and have a secure hand luggage. All in-flight emergency procedures are demonstrated by cabin crew, and they are also responsible for taking control should an emergency situation arise. They also help passengers compete any necessary travel documents and file flight reports.
Their work hours may vary and is never a 9-5 Monday to Friday job. They also work during nights, weekends and on public holidays. Social and friendly people perform better on long-haul where you will fly and stop-over at different airports of the world. It is hard work and rewarding. There is no typical weekly routine hence they have to be very flexible.
They work as a team, generally in pairs while on the flight, and may work, long, short or both flights. It just depends on what flights are running and who is, or isn't available.
It is a physically demanding job, as shifts are long and much of these are spend standing and walking up and down.
Salaries are reasonably good. There are a lot of fringe benefits which go along with the job; great travel deals being one of these. Will see new places and know people of varied culture. Here you will find no two days similar. So if you have a passion for travelling this will be the perfect job for you. If they perform better they could be promoted to the position of Customer Service Supervisor or Cabin Services Supervisor.
