Airport Maintenance Worker

Summary The purpose of this position is to assist in operating the airport terminal and refuel aircraft.
General Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Refuels aircraft.
Maintains the airport terminal.
Sweeps terminal floors.
Answer the telephone.
Inspects the runway and taxiway and clears debris.
Maintains terminal grounds, including snow removal.
Mows, weed eats, and trims airport grounds.
Ensures that runway and taxiway lights are visible and replaces them as needed.
Alerts pilots of air traffic and weather conditions.
Collects money from pilots and customers.
Collect rainfall water samples quarterly for the Department of Natural Resources.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge of:
Basic maintenance procedures and safety procedures.
Basic mechanics.
Landscaping techniques.
Equipment operation.
Oil spill cleanup techniques.
Ability to:
Provide good customer service.
Perform a variety of semi-skilled maintenance and repair work in the area of work assigned.
Operate a variety of vehicular and stationary mechanical equipment in a safe and effective manner.
Perform a variety of manual tasks for extended periods of time and in unfavorable weather conditions.
Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Follow all safety rules and regulations of the airport.

Must have a valid Driver’s License.
Will be subject to background investigation and physical.
Must successfully complete pre-employment substance abuse testing.

Education and/or Experience
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed and involved written or oral instructions.
Make decisions on procedural and technical levels involving work of all subordinates.
Demonstrate excellent work ethic and integrity.

hysical Demands
Must possess the ability to operate a motor vehicle and the ability to perform light to heavy physical work. The ability to bend, stoop, kneel, and reach when completing tasks at ground level and overhead. Employees must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects of various weight, with the use of proper equipment. Refueling truck, self-serve gas pump, lawn mower, weed eater, Unicom radio, aircraft tug, tractor, brush hog, and a variety of hand tools.
Work Environment
Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor environments amid normal conditions of dust, odors, fumes, noises, precipitation, and extreme temperatures.
Training: Continually participate in additional training related to job as requested by supervisor.
Ability to apply new techniques of staff training, knowledge of human behavior and behavior modification.
